This week we're excited to bring you a young band out of Baltimore, MD, Bad Seed Rising!
I first heard of them a couple of years ago when they played at the M3 Festival in Columbia, MD. There amongst all of the 80's heavyweights, was this group of kids ranging in ages from 11-15 at the time! Embracing their parents love of rock music, they banded together to write their own 80's style-rock songs with a modern flair. They list Guns and Roses, Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Foo Fighters, Lamb of God and others among their influences. Bad Seed Rising are Francheska Pastor on vocals, Mason Gainer on guitar, Aiden Marceron on drums and Louey Peraza on bass.
Below is the first part of our interview, where we asked some questions about the band in general. Lead singer Francheska responded with the following.
Junkies: How long has the band been together?
We've been together for for four years since April of 2012.
Junkies: Any notable changes?
A lot of changes, actually. I mean for one we all grew up, and we're still growing. we all dressed kinda weird.
Junkies: What inspires you as a band?
The music.
Junkies: Who are your influences?
My personal influences would be Crucible, Marmozets, Rage Against the Machine. Other than that, I listen to a lot of jazz. a lot. of. Jazz.
Junkies: What are your songs about?
We got a bunch of different topics.
'It's My Time' is about defying anyone who tells me I can't do something.
'Carry On' is a motivation song to keep going no matter how hard times get.
'Six Feet Deep,' I'm pretty sure this song is about love and heartbreak (haha).
'Mess,' I think this song is also about love and heartbreak? I can't remember. Oh and it's also about facing demons after someone has left you and eventually accepting it.
'ADHD' is actually about my ADD.
'Disappear' is about things I'm missing out on in life and what I'm sacrificing to live my dream. But living my dream is better than living in reality.
Junkies: Who have you played with?
We've played with bad ass acts like Issues, PVRIS, Clutch, Janes Addiction, Rise Against, Ghost Town, to name a few.
Junkies: Who do you hope to play with?
It would be tight to play with my personal influences, also Highly Suspect. It'd also be tight to play with our own friends. We haven't done that yet. Like More to Monroe, Vault 51, Cover Your Tracks.
Junkies: What keeps the band going?
Our support system. Our families. Each other. Nothing beats who we have surrounding us. Even from just driving us to practice since we were teenyboppers. Nothing we can do or say to make up for it except to work hard at our craft and not giving up.
Junkies: Any interesting facts about the band?
We all like Shrek, Mason hates onions, Aiden and I used to do ballet, and I love aliens.
