Check out what the guys had to say about the band below and be sure to follow along with us all week as we learn more about the band and the members. Follow them on Facebook to learn about upcoming shows!
We started during the Fall of 2010. That was when we first met and got to know one another as people and fellow musicians. Back then it was all just ‘70s rock covers. We started a project called Corvette Summer, strictly for fun. The idea was to play sets of great ‘70s rock tunes that were never given radio play. In time we started writing our own material, and the first Demon Eye show happened in the Spring of 2012.
Junkies: Any notable changes?
Aside from making the transition as a cover band to full-fledged project, nothing really dramatic has occurred. We have a stable lineup and we’ve been very fortunate to receive great support locally, nationally, and internationally. We were signed to Soulseller Records just a few months after we played our first shows and recorded our first demo. We never take those things for granted.
Junkies: What inspires you as a band?
Definitely the classic metal and hard rock we all grew up with. There’s also a lot of influence from horror literature, particularly the classics like Poe and Lovecraft. And even though we are not a political band in the slightest, some of our music is a response to all the insane things happening in the world around us.
Junkies: Who are your influences?
The core influences for Demon Eye are Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, and Pentagram.
Junkies: What are your songs about?
They tend to range from the occult and fantastical things to more reality-based topics like politics and human nature. The world these days is constant, surging sea of chaos. If you’re into writing music with a bit of darker edge, you have source material all around you.
Junkies: Who have you played with? Who do you hope to play with?
So far we have shared the stage with bands like Corrosion of Conformity, High on Fire, King’s X, The Sword, Spirit Caravan, YOB, and Witch Mountain. We’re playing soon with Pentagram, which is like a dream come true . We’d love to open for any of the giants who are still going strong, like Alice Cooper, Sabbath, and Iron Maiden. Realistically, though, we’re happy to play with any bands who are laying down a vibe we like and doing it well.
Junkies: What keeps the band going?
Like any band, we love what we do. That alone keeps you going. All of us in the band have also done well in creating a good balance between Demon Eye and our personal lives. That’s important. We love what we do and never want to stop, but life has other offerings you have to devote time to as well.
Junkies: Any interesting facts about the band?
Not really. None of us party hard and we’re all married dudes with day jobs. We’re probably the most incredibly boring band people ever. If anything, kids are a big part of all our lives. Paul has three daughters. Larry has a little boy and also gives guitar lessons to kids. Bill has two sons and is a baseball coach. Erik doesn’t have kids, but he’s a children’s librarian and makes his living by singing to them. Kids know him as “Mr. Erik,” and their parents don’t mind that he plays in a heavy band.
